About Angie Runyan
While raising my family, I took a hiatus from making art. I returned first, to making images by experimenting with photography. Using a camera is an initially quick and instantly gratifying way to record what I see in the world. Capturing images of the beauty of creation led me back to drawing and painting, something I did a lot of as a young adult. From there, I have also begun to explore the use of textiles and embroidery. Embroidery to me, is like drawing and painting, only very slowly and methodically with thread. I learned to sew and do embroidery as a girl. Those are also methods of making that I have neglected and returned to over time. Currently, I am continuing to use a combination of approaches to create. By sparking an idea for the use of different mediums, my own photographs are often the beginning of new pieces that morph into different forms. Each medium incorporated represents an exploration of my interests and experimentation with possible approaches to creating a visual response to the world around me.
